Saving Mom Goals

1) Does the molestation help to explain the past 20 years, or do the past 20 years explain the molestation? Appraoch the molestation scene from multiple perspectives to open it up and:
-Understand what the molestation means (i.e., what has ruptured, what will now be at stake)
-Consider the ripple effect this scene has on the rest of the events in Saving Mom
-Explore the character of the Reverend

2) Unpack one of the play’s central questions: What is the “family bond?” Are there bonds that are stronger? If so, why?
-Solidify the nature of the family's relationship
-Solidify the relationship between Mother and Reverend
-Understand the ways in which these relationships play off one another

3) Take exposition and represent it in action, particularly in activating character traits.
-Track how characters describe one another
-Evaluate the need to show these traits through action

GREAT WORK SOO JIN!!!

I love the grasp that you have on MOM's character. I feel that every time you bring new pages she gets more and more meaner (which i like). I feel that MOM is your strongest character. I look forward to hearing her voice when we work on your play. She is such a strong presence. She resonates throughout the whole play. It's like she's a piece of bubble gum stuck your hair. Something that you cant get away from.

I was incredibly intrigued with working on the molestation scene. It was hard to read the scene out loud because It's such an incredible moment for both the Rev and Harriet. I can only imagine how powerful/intense/scary/ it will look when you have actors actually DOING The scene. Also, when all the Rev's were innterogated (slighty) I feel like that brought up some great material and ideas to work on for the Rev. To me, it felt like I was caught in the act and trying to explain myself. It felt really intense. I that whole class period was a mini breakthrough for the Rev and Harriet!!!

I'm also very intrigued about the Dad character. I wanna know more about him. MORE MORE MORE!!!

Questions:

1. Do MOM and REV. have sex on a regular basis?

2. What does dad think about Mom's relationship with the REV?

3. How do Harriet and Sunshine keep from informing Dad about Mom and Rev's relationship?

4. What is Dad's relationship with his daughters? Do they talk often?
